No — you do not need to code to get a Claude certification, but it depends on which one. CCAO-F (Claude Certified Associate – Foundations) is built for people who use Claude in their daily work and does not require coding. The Developer and Architect certifications are different: they test how you build and design applications, so they assume technical experience. Certifications are issued by Anthropic; Agmo runs exam-preparation workshops.
Which Claude certifications need coding?
| Certification | Level | Coding needed? | Exam fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| CCAO-F — Claude Certified Associate – Foundations | Entry · business | No | US$99 |
| CCDV-F — Claude Certified Developer – Foundations | Technical | Yes — Python or TypeScript | US$125 |
| CCAR-F — Claude Certified Architect – Foundations | Technical | Yes — design and implementation judgment | US$125 |
| CCAR-P — Claude Certified Architect – Professional | Advanced | Yes — experienced architects | US$175 |
All four share the same format: 120 minutes, a pass mark of 720 on a 100–1,000 scale, and 12 months validity, taken through Pearson OnVUE (online) or a test center. Fees and details are as of July 2026; confirm with Anthropic before you book. See the full comparison of Claude certifications.
What the no-code path covers
Client-facing and delivery practitioners who use Claude in their own work — operations, marketing, project management, HR, education, consulting. No coding. The exam is about judgment in everyday AI use rather than programming. Its largest domain is Output Evaluation & Validation (21%), and it also covers governance and responsible use, prompting, and choosing the right product or model for a task.
That makes sense for a Malaysian business: the people who most need to use AI well are often in operations, finance, HR, marketing or project management, not engineering. The CCAO-F study hub walks through each domain in plain language.
Why the technical paths assume coding
Solution architects who design and implement production applications with Claude — the Agent SDK, Claude Code, the API and MCP. Tests architectural judgment, not recall. The Architect exam is described as testing architectural judgment, not recall, but that judgment is built on hands-on work with the API, Claude Code and MCP. The Developer exam goes further into building, tool design and security for production applications.
You do not need to be a senior engineer to start. But if you have never read or written code, these exams will be a steep climb, and the CCAR-F workshop is designed for people who already work in technical roles.
Which path fits your role
- Operations, marketing, HR, finance, project management, consulting: start with CCAO-F.
- Software engineers and solution architects: CCAR-F or CCDV-F, depending on whether your work is design-led or build-led.
- Experienced architects leading enterprise rollouts: CCAR-P.
- Senior leaders: you may not need an exam at all. The invitation-only AI Forward CXO Program is aimed at executive decision-making.
Mixed teams often split: technical staff take the Architect or Developer exam while business staff take CCAO-F. Our CCAR-F vs CCAO-F comparison goes into that choice in more detail.
How to prepare without a technical background
Practise with real tasks from your own job: drafting, summarising, analysing and reviewing AI output. Then work through the domain pages of the study hub and test yourself on scenarios. Agmo's CCAO-F workshop is a two-day, instructor-led way to do that. HRD Corp claimability is subject to eligibility and HRD Corp approval.
