This domain is 16% of the CCAO-F exam. Decide where Claude fits in a process — and where a person must stay in charge.
Automate, Collaborate or keep a Human in charge
A useful way to design where Claude fits is to sort each step of a process into one of three modes:
- Automate — repetitive, low-risk, easy-to-check work Claude can do end to end (for example, formatting meeting notes into a template).
- Collaborate — work where Claude drafts or analyses and a person steers and edits (for example, a first draft of a proposal).
- Human — decisions with high stakes, legal or ethical weight, or that need accountability and relationships. Claude can prepare input but a person decides.
Designing a workflow
- Map the current process step by step.
- For each step, ask what could go wrong if Claude gets it wrong, and how quickly you would notice.
- Place checkpoints where a person reviews output before it moves on.
- Start small: pilot one workflow, measure time saved and error rate, then expand.
Good candidates, poor candidates
Good: summarising, drafting, classifying, extracting, reformatting, first-pass analysis. Poor without safeguards: final approval of payments, legal commitments, anything where an unnoticed error is costly.
Common exam angles
- Picking the right level of automation for a described task.
- Spotting the missing human checkpoint in a proposed workflow.
- Choosing a sensible pilot that is valuable but low-risk.
