CCAO-F Study Guide

CCAO-F Domain: Product & Model Selection

This domain is 12% of the CCAO-F exam. Pick the right Claude product and model for the job.

Two decisions: which product, which model

Product is where you use Claude — the chat app for individual work, team and enterprise plans with shared controls, and tools that connect Claude to other software. Model is which Claude does the thinking. Anthropic offers models at different points on a trade-off between capability, speed and cost; check Anthropic's current model lineup for names and details, as these change.

How to choose

  • Hard reasoning, long documents, high-stakes analysis — use a more capable model and accept slower, costlier answers.
  • High-volume, simple, fast tasks — a smaller, faster model is usually the right call.
  • Team use with company data — choose a plan with the admin controls and data protections your policy requires.

Match the tool to the job

Ask: Is this a one-off conversation or a repeatable process? Does it need access to company documents or other apps? Who else needs to use it? The answers point toward Projects, shared team plans, or connectors rather than a single chat.

Common exam angles

  • Selecting the most suitable model for a described task and constraint.
  • Recognising when cost or speed should outweigh maximum capability.
  • Picking the Claude product that fits a team's needs.

Common Questions

FAQ

Should I always use the most powerful Claude model?
No. The best model is the one that is good enough for the task at acceptable speed and cost. Simple, high-volume tasks are often better served by a smaller, faster model.
